A few months back, German audio masters Sennheiser had launched the Momentum headphones in India. In our testing we found them to be sublime, but they were not exactly portable thanks to their closed back design. This time around they have launched the Momentum On-Ear, which have ear cups that sit on your ears rather than cocooning the ears inside massive cans. This also means the headphones are smaller and more ideal for usage when one is on the go. The Momentum On-Ears cost Rs 14,990 in India.
Sennheiser is offering the headphone in a variety of colours that include blue, green, pink and ivory. As for people who are worried about the comfort of these headphones, the ear cups are made of Alcantara, which according to Sennheiser is a high tech material that ensures comfort and durability. Normally, we have seen headphones having leather ear cups, so we don’t really know how comfortable this material will be, till we test them ourselves.
From a technology point of view, they are equipped with 18-ohm transducers, and they have a frequency range between 16-22,000 Hz. Sennheiser also emphasises that the on-ear design facilitates sound isolation providing for passive noise cancellation something we have witnessed on the Bowers and Wilkins P5s.
As with most modern headphones, they come with a single-sided detachable cable with in-line remote and microphone for Apple iDevices allowing users to control the music and receive calls.
