Facebook is testing a VIP-only app for celebrities

Facebook is testing an exclusive VIP application for celebrities. The app is meant for a small group of famous people allowing them to monitor Facebook fan chatter about them from a mobile device. The app will allow celebrities to quickly respond to their fans and kick off a*conversation without much friction, AllThingsD reports.
Reportedly, the app is in its nascent stage, and it’s an attempt by Facebook to counteract Twitter’s influence amongst celebrities and their followers. The idea is to compete more directly with public sharing offered by Twitter. Currently on Facebook, fans can either like a page which invariably is handled not by the celebrity or the fan has to be friends with the celebrity on Facebook.
Facebook over the past year has also hired many people who work with celebrities on best practises for using Facebook such as posting thoughts, pictures or status. Currently, Twitter makes this much simpler for a celebrity, but if Facebook can cook something unique there is no reason why it can’t usurp Twitter in this space.
