Samsung confirms Galaxy Gear and Note III launch on September 4


Ahead of Apple, Samsung will introduce its wearable device under the all new Galaxy Gear series alongside the Galaxy Note III on September 4 in Berlin, a Samsung executive confirmed to*The Korean Times. Reportedly, the executive has also added that though the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will not feature a flexible display, it will bring a new trend and “meaningful momentum” in the mobile device industry.
According to the report, Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung Mobile, has also revealed that this new device will run on Android and will work as an enhancement to the smartphones. While this would just be the beginning, the company has even more advanced wearable devices in the pipeline.
Rumors so far have suggested that it will come with a 2.5-inch square display with 320×320 pixels resolution, be powered by a dual-core processor, might also feature a camera on its strap, *feature fitness-based apps, support NFC as well as Bluetooth 4.0 LE to communicate with the phone, and might even allow*making calls. It is also expected to start shipping around September 23 and come in various colors.
Along with the smartwatch, the report confirms the launch of Galaxy Note III on*September 4, a couple of days ahead of the IFA and negates rumors about acquisition-related talks with BlackBerry.
So far Sony is the leading smartphone player to have its smartwatches available in the market, while players like Apple, Samsung, LG and even Google are working on their respective wearable devices.
