அன்றாட வாழ்க்கையில், நிறைய நகைச்சுவைகள் மற்றும் அனுபவத்தைப் பெறுகிறோம். ஆனால் இன்றைய நவீன உலக வாழ்க்கையை பார்க்கும் போது, சாதாரண விஷயங்களில் உள்ள நிறைய உண்மைகள் விசித்திரமாகவே கருதப்படுகின்றன. மேலும் அத்தகைய உண்மைகளை கேட்டால், பலரும் வாயில் கை வைத்து 'அப்படியா!!!' என்று ஆச்சரியமாக கேட்பார்கள். சொன்னால் கூட நம்பமாட்டார்கள். உதாரணமாக, உலகிலேயே வெடிகுண்டு வெடித்தாலும் இறக்காத பூச்சி கரப்பான்பூச்சி என்று தெரியும். ஆனால் அந்த பூச்சி தலை இல்லாமல் கூட உயிருடன் இருக்கும் என்று சொன்னால் ஆச்சரியம் தானே.

Only Toshiba Interested in NVIDIA Tegra 4

Sources seem to be jumping the gun a bit, saying Tegra 4 is slow to attract tablet and smartphone makers.

The usual suspects cited by the oh-so-spotty DigiTimes report that Toshiba is currently the only tablet and smartphone vendor to sign up for Nvidia's Tegra 4 SoC.

Of course, the chip was only revealed less than a month ago at CES 2013, and it won't officially launch until June 2013, so there's still time for device makers to jump on the Tegra 4 bandwagon. But sources appear to think the seemingly slow adoption rate has something to do with competing quad-core platforms developed by Qualcomm, MediaTek and China-based IC design houses.

Sources plead their case by pointing to Asus and Acer which have thus far been aggressive in the tablet sector. Both have reportedly not yet decided whether to place Tegra 4 orders with Nvidia due to a possible shift in focus from 10-inch form factors and above to the cheaper, seemingly more popular 7-inch entry-level market.

On the smartphone front, Qualcomm's close ties with Asus will likely prevent the latter company from choosing Team Nvidia. Sources said Asus will continue steering on the same lucrative Qualcomm-tainted path while setting Tegra 4 aside as a backup solution.

Sources added that in order to regain its momentum, Nvidia may reduce the price of its current Tegra 3 chip to attract entry-level orders from brand vendors. But even with a reduced price, Tegra 3 may not be able to compete in price with solutions from MediaTek and China-based IC design houses, they said.

BlackBerry Z30 spotted yet again in a leaked video

So far, the BlackBerry Z30 has been spotted in a number of alleged photos and even an elaborate hands-on video leaked in the last few weeks, and now a new video of the phone has been posted by CrackBerry, hinting towards a possible nearing launch of the phone. This latest hand-on video comes sans any audio but shows off its design with an HTC One like slanted front and BlackBerry Q10 like fiber-material based back-panel, the placement of keys, and a big display accommodating 5 rows of icons.
Features-wise, the phone is believed to be majorly focused on gaming and thus will come with a 5-inch 720p AMOLED display, the biggest in the company’s newest range of the smartphones running on the next version of the BB10 OS. *This new BB 10.2 version is expected to bring along some new features including a quick settings menu. Besides this, it is expected to house a more powerful dual-core processor than seen on the Z10, coupled with 2GB of RAM.
With all the leaked video and launches, it is just the price and launch date of the phone that is yet to be known.

Sony to launch Xperia Z1 aka Honami in India on September 18

The buzzmaker of IFA, the Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami), will launch in India in September 18 at an event in New Delhi, sources have told BGR India. Just like the Xperia Z, which was the Japanese giant’s flagship smartphone for the first half of the year, Sony will rope in Bollywood star Katrina Kaif as the brand ambassador for the device. The fact that Sony will launch the Xperia Z1 within two weeks of its global announcement suggests India will be in the first wave of countries where it will be launched.
Notably, the phone will carry a price tag of close to Rs 50,000 if not more, which might fluctuate depending on the prevailing forex rate. The Xperia Z1 is expected to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz, which will work in tandem with 2GB of RAM and will have a 5-inch 1080p display that will boast Sony’s Triluminus display technology.
The Xperia Z1 has been reported to be an imaging monolith as it will combine a Cyber-shot branded 20-megapixel sensor that will have Carl Zeiss optics and a Sony G lens that the company reserves for its point and shoot cameras. Additionally, is also expected to combine Sony’s BIONZ image processing engine and it is expected to be the first phone to be able to shoot video at 4K resolutions.
Design wise as the above press image shows, that it could have a metal frame much like the Nokia Lumia 925 and internally it will also have 16GB of memory, a microSD card slot and a 3,000 mAh battery. It will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. We have also heard that the phone will feature an augmented reality app called Info-eye which could work similar to Nokia’s CityLens app on its Lumia devices.

Samsung confirms Galaxy Gear and Note III launch on September 4

Ahead of Apple, Samsung will introduce its wearable device under the all new Galaxy Gear series alongside the Galaxy Note III on September 4 in Berlin, a Samsung executive confirmed to*The Korean Times. Reportedly, the executive has also added that though the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will not feature a flexible display, it will bring a new trend and “meaningful momentum” in the mobile device industry.
According to the report, Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung Mobile, has also revealed that this new device will run on Android and will work as an enhancement to the smartphones. While this would just be the beginning, the company has even more advanced wearable devices in the pipeline.
Rumors so far have suggested that it will come with a 2.5-inch square display with 320×320 pixels resolution, be powered by a dual-core processor, might also feature a camera on its strap, *feature fitness-based apps, support NFC as well as Bluetooth 4.0 LE to communicate with the phone, and might even allow*making calls. It is also expected to start shipping around September 23 and come in various colors.
Along with the smartwatch, the report confirms the launch of Galaxy Note III on*September 4, a couple of days ahead of the IFA and negates rumors about acquisition-related talks with BlackBerry.
So far Sony is the leading smartphone player to have its smartwatches available in the market, while players like Apple, Samsung, LG and even Google are working on their respective wearable devices.

Sony’s incoming Xperia Z1 has been making all the headlines in the tech press and with good reason because when it arrives it will arguably be the most formidable Android smartphone on the planet on the basis of its specs and design. But what has really caught our attention is a camera lens attachment, which will connect to smartphones including the iPhone via Bluetooth allowing extra imaging oomph. Our sources have confirmed that this attachment is going to be called the EspressOn.
Previous leaks have painted quite a detailed picture of the EspressOn lens attachments. There will be reportedly two lens attachments. One will be called the DSC-QX100 and it features the same 20.2-megapixel sensor, a f/1.8 aperture and 3.6x optical zoom as the recently launched RX-100 II point and shoot camera. The other model – DSC-QX10 – will be a cheaper alternative, but this also has been used before on the WX-150 camera and features a 18-megapixel CMOS sensor and an f/3.5-3.9 lens.
Both lenses are also reported to having a dedicated power button, microphone, display panel for battery and SD card, a tripod mount, a dedicated shutter button, a multifunctional jack, and a zoom lever. The DSC-QX100 will also have ring controls for more manual control.

Apple’s gold colored iPhone 5S all but confirmed

We have been hearing rumors about Apple’s plans to offer its forthcoming iPhone 5S in a gold colored variant and even seen alleged photos of the device. Now a report by TechCrunch’s MG Siegler has all but confirmed the existence of this variant.

Yes, there will be a gold iPhone. That’s the latest I’m hearing from multiple sources after several weeks of rumors and possible component leaks suggesting the same thing. At first, I couldn’t believe Apple would break from the tradition of offering the simple choice: black and white (or “slate” and “silver” if you prefer for the iPhone 5) for their flagship device. Gold simply seemed too gaudy, perhaps even tacky. But a few compelling arguments countered my disbelief. And now, upon checking, sure enough, there will be gold.

According to the report, the idea of a gold variant stems from the fact that the color is very popular in the after-markets. Gold colored cases are a huge hit, especially in countries like China and India and Apple wants to tap into this growing market. Another reason could be that Apple is facing another year where their upgrades will be internal rather than external, and by offering a new jazzy color it would be able to please a large section of buyers.
Making a gold colored variant is not difficult either and in fact is much easier to manufacture than the black variant. The process involves a simple chemical reaction, with the possible addition of dye depending on the exact color they want to produce. Siegler further reveals that the device won’t be a gaudy gold color but a more subtle champagne color.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5S during a press conference on September 10, and the device is said to feature a faster processor, an upgraded camera with a dual-LED flash and*an embedded fingerprint scanner. The 5S will also reportedly be accompanied by the cheaper*iPhone 5C, which too will be offered in multiple colored variants, ranging from white, red, blue, green and yellow among others.

Government to invest Rs 8,000 crore to distribute free tablets to over 20 million stu

The government of India is planning to invest around Rs 8,000 crore in order to distribute over 20 million tablets for free to the senior school students across India before the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections,*HT reports. For this project, the government will release an open tender soon, and it is expected that tablet vendors like Micromax, HCL Infosystems, Karbonn, Lenovo and Teracom will be amongst the top contenders for the same.
Reportedly, the proposal for the free tablet distribution has already been discussed amongst a set of representatives from the Prime Minister’s office, the department of telecommunications and the department of information technology and electronics.*However, the process is still in the initial stages and the government is yet to decide on how to take this forward.
The report quotes a government official disclosing that, “We expect price of a tablet to be between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000.” And considering the number of the tablets projected in this project, the cumulative price for these tablets will cost close to Rs 8,000 crore to the government.
This project could be funded by the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). This is a government organization which gets its share of funds from telecom operators who give a share of their annual revenues to the organization in order to make rural areas more technology equipped.
The USOF has about Rs 25,000 crore available with it, which can be utilized for the project. According to the report, an official close to the project has said that, “Even though, USOF is planning some projects, it will have sufficient funds for the project.”
This is not for the first time that the government is planning to distribute gadgets to students, as earlier various state governments have either distributed or planned to distribute tablets or laptops to students. Also, the HRD ministry had been working on the Aakash tablet project that aims to provide $35 Android tablets to the underprivileged and those students belonging to financially weaker section of the society.

Micromax teases Canvas Doodle 2, launch imminent

Last week we reported about Micromax’s plans to launch a new flagship device that would go up against Samsung’s mighty Mega series of phablets. Now, the Canvas Doodle 2 as the phablet is known could be close to a launch. Micromax has posted a photo on Facebook that depicts a hand-drawn doodle followed by the tagline “Can your imagination get bigger?” and the name Canvas Doodle 2 at the top. In the comments section, the company has written that they will be launching the device in the coming weeks.

From what we know so far, the Canvas Doodle 2 will most likely be a rebadged BLU Life View and will go up against the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8. Talking of specifications, the device is likely to flaunt a 5.7-inch 720p display and will be powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor clocked at 1.2GHz.
Other features likely to be included are 1GB of RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5-megapixel secondary camera, 16GB of expandable internal memory and a 2,600mAh battery. Connectivity-wise the device will feature dual-SIM support and on the software front, will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean along with the various add-ons like vertical panorama in camera app, video pinning to home-screen support, Flip to mute, and Smart Pause that were introduced on the Canvas 4.
The Canvas Doodle 2 is expected to be priced at around Rs 18,000, which should give the Galaxy Mega 5.8 a run for its money as it is priced at Rs 23,000 and also lags behind in terms of specifications. 

Free messaging apps can compromise India’s security, say experts

Cybersecurity experts warn that free text messaging applications*for smart phones, such as WhatsApp and WeChat, pose a threat to the country’s national security apart from compromising an individual user’s data.
When users download these apps on their phones, they agree to a host of conditions that essentially enable the companies to access a majority of the users’ phone data, including their conversations, contacts, etc.* Since the companies’ servers are on foreign shores, sensitive data or information can well be compromised.
While WhatsApp has its server in the US, WeChat has its servers in China. Human rights activists working in China have expressed concern about possible surveillance of their conversations through WeChat.
India has already raised concern over Chinese telecom firms ZTE and Huawei, whose close ties to the Chinese government, have obstructed their footprint in India. What may compound the worry now is the fact that an increasing number of Indian political leaders, policymakers, businessmen and others are using these apps, potentially dealing a blow to sensitive data.
“WeChat’s*security loopholes have been largely ignored by its users, and this can be exploited to easily access their data,” Internet security expert Jiten Jain told*dna.
“WhatsApp has a server in the US, so it won’t be surprising if we find out tomorrow that US intelligence agencies are scanning our messages.”
Jain and others like him will demonstrate how these apps can act as potential spying tools at a hackers conference in Delhi on Sunday. At the conference, security expert Mohit Kumar will show how users’ personal data can be accessed while IT security expert Sajan Viswambharan will reveal how WeChat’s loopholes can be a threat to India’s national security as it effectively gives the Chinese government access to chat logs and all the data on users’ smart phones.
“The microphone on a device, on which WeChat has been installed, can record conversations if the device is on even without the user being aware of it. Now imagine if this happens while a minister is meeting the head of security agencies or the prime minister on critical issues,” said Kumar.

Micromax is planning to launch a couple of phones in the coming months and the first in this list will be the Micromax Canvas Doodle 2, the phone will be powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. The device is expected to sport a 12 megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Other specifications my include are a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, Dual-SIM support and the gestures software seen on the Micromax Canvas 4. The device is likely to be juiced by a 2,600mAh battery and run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. This device will compete with rivals like Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and the Galaxy Grand Series. Micromax had recently launched the Micromax Canvas 4 A210 and this will be the second iteration of Micromax’s high build quality phones. The company is planning to demonstrate better builds with their latest handsets, but the inclusion of merely a MT6589 vs MT6589T that the competition is using may turn out to be a disadvantage for the company. The Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 may be dubbed as the A240 and will feature a HD 5.7 inch display. If the company does end up using the MT6589T chipset they might actually bump the screen resolution to 1920 x 1080 px as seen in the iBerry Auxus Nuclea N1. The top flap of the phone around the camera will open up to make space for the two sim cards. It is also expected that the phone may not have expandable storage.

After launching the Micromax Canvas 4 earlier this year, Micromax seems to be readying yet another flagship device. AndroidOS.in reports that this forthcoming phone will be called the A240 and could be announced as early as next week.
According to the report, the A240 is likely to flaunt a 5.7-inch 720p display and will be powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. Other features likely to be included are 1GB of RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5-megapixel secondary camera, 16GB of expandable internal memory and a 2,600mAh battery.
Connectivity-wise the device will feature dual-SIM support and on the software front, will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean along with the various add-ons like vertical panorama in camera app, video pinning to home-screen support, Flip to mute, and Smart Pause that were introduced on the Canvas 4.
The report further claims that the device will be priced somewhere around Rs 18,000, which is similar the launch price of the Canvas 4. The A240 could be Micromax’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Mega series of phablets.  

Few days ago it was rumored that upcoming Micromax A240 Canvas 5 will run octa core MediaTek MT6592 chip. There is no possibility of that to happen unless Micromax is willing to release it by December this year. I don’t think the leading Indian phone seller will take that risk. Micromax A210 Canvas 4 failed to impress buyers with its specs. Everybody expected major changes in hardware but the company did opposite to that. They focused on built quality and software features rather than hardware. But the trick didn’t work for them. Majority of the pre-orders were cancelled just because there were no MediaTek MT6589T Turbo, 2 GB RAM.

 

Now we can expect the following changes to happen in upcoming Micromax A240 Canvas 5-
1. Change in processor- MediaTek MT6589 will surely be replaced with MT6589T Turbo. The Turbo version of the chip is really fast as the application processor cores are clocked high at 1.5 GHz and the GPU too is over-clocked to 357 MHz. Now anyone can understand the later one is faster and better for multitasking.

2. 2 GB RAM- Now everybody is hoping for 2 GB RAM. It will be great if that much RAM is present in Canvas 5. Less than that will disappoint everyone.
3. Full HD 1080p Display- Micromax A116 Canvas HD was the first phone to get 720p display. Now time has changed. Not only high-end phones but also low-cost phones like Zopo ZP980, Wammay Passion Z are getting 1080p display in less than Rs 15,000. Micromax should consider this feature with higher importance.
4. At least 2500 mAh battery- Now majority of the buyers understand bigger battery is better for ultimate smartphone experience. Mere 2000 mAh battery for highly powerful hardware, 1080p display will drain the battery very fast.So something like a 2500 mAh battery can do the trick for them.
5. NFC/Wi-Fi Direct- Everybody want to get as much as possible! Nothing wrong with that. Sony Xperia L, Nokia Lumia 720 can have NFC, Wi-Fi Direct in less than Rs 18,000. So everybody hoping for these connectivity features. DLNA is also an important feature especially if you want to stream media in your smart TV from smartphone.
Other specs should be 16 GB ROM, micro SD card slot, 13 MP camera, 5 MP front camera, HSPA+ speed, GPRS/EDGE Class 12Corning Gorilla Glass coating on display. If all these features are present in Micromax A240 Canvas 5 I guess it will be a super hit phone. But the release should happen anytime soon, a December release with these specs.. No way!
