Sony Cyber-shot Lens-Style cameras DSCQX100 and DSCQX10 announced for $499 and $249






Along with the Xperia Z1, Sony today has finally introduced its much talked about attachable lens camera series for smartphones. As expected, the two initiators in this rather innovative lens series are the QX100 and QX10. Though enough had been leaked about the specs and features of these lenses, what comes as an interesting part is that the lens will be compatible with all iOS and Android running smartphones via the PlayMemories mobile App, which will be required to operate the camera from a smartphone.




Feature-wise, weighing at about 179 grams, the QX100 will comes with a 20.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and an f/1.8 Carl Zeiss lens with 3.6X optical zoom. The QX10 will weigh 105 grams with battery and memory stick, and come with an 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor with 10x zoom and an f/3.5-3.9 Sony G lens.
Both of these will also be able to record full HD videos at 12-megapixel with 1920×1080 pixels resolution at 30fps in the MP4 format and can shoot even in low lighting situations. Both will come with single-shot auto-focus and touch auto-focus and additionally QX100 will also come with manual focus.







As seen in Sony’s official video leaked earlier today, these lenses will work as smartphone camera enhancements and will easily be coupled and uncoupled with the smartphone via either NFC or Wi-Fi on one-touch connection. So basically the display of the phone will act as a viewfinder and one will not really have to physically attach the accessory to the phone. So these could be put or mounted anywhere within the reach of the Wi-Fi or NFC range of the smartphone, while the viewfinder on the phone can still be used to click photos. The lenses will also feature manual keys like a power key as well as a battery indicator, and will come with microSD card memory card support.
In terms of prices, the QX100 is priced at $499 while the QX10 will carry a price tag of $249. The lens cameras are available from Amazon US on preorder from today and will be released on*September 27.
